1 PAIR OF High-Quality Gold Plated Speaker Banana Plugs, Open Screw Type

Banana plugs make speaker installation a breeze. They are designed for use with amplifiers or speakers that use traditional binding posts. Not only is it easier to make the connection on the back of your amp, it is safer, with no chance of stray wire strands creating a short across contacts.

These high quality plugs are the open screw type and can accept bare wire, spades, or other banana plugs. They are sized to fit speaker wire from 12 to 18 AWG. Each pair comes with one plug color coded red and the other coded black, for easy polarity identification.

The plug body is made of brass, which is then plated with gold to help prevent corrosion and ensure smooth connections.

Features:

  • Can accept bare wire, spades, or other banana plugs
  • Can accept 12 to 18 AWG speaker wires
  • Color coded black/red rings for maintaining proper polarity
  • Secure, positive contact with binding posts
  • Corrosion resistant, 24K gold plated brass plug
  • Each order includes ONE pair (2 plugs total)

The video below shows the differences between the various types of banana plugs and includes a demonstration of how to install each type.

Question: What is the benefit of banana plugs? Are they better than bare wire?

Answer: Banana plugs offer solid connection and convenience. When trying to wire speaker cables into the back of a receiver in a cabinet or other tight space, banana plugs offer the convenience of connecting the bare wire out in the open and simply plugging them in the appropriate post. This also prevents cross termination of stray strands that can overload the system. Additionally, the gold plating on the plugs offer corrosion resistance. Corrosion (oxidation) can impede signal transfer and can potentially damage the terminals on your equipment. So banana plugs offer convenience, safety and equipment protection.

Copper is a better conductor of electricity than gold but is much more susceptible to corrosion.

Question: What's the difference between the Closed Screw Type and the Open Screw Type?

Answer: The Open Screw type has the benefit of being a little more versatile. The side entry option means it can accommodate thicker gauges of wire or bundles of more than one conduit. It can also piggy back other connectors while terminating bare wire at the same time.

The Closed Screw type has the benefit of providing a cleaner finish. Because there is no hole in the side, there are no exposed strands of wires. This also reduces the changes of shorting across terminals.
